This is a nice little epilator for when you're tired of frequent shaving (with nicks and everything else) and the sticky mess of waxing. Yes, the epilator is painful (I think that's to be expected; it's not magic!), but not as painful as waxing, and becomes less painful over time (similar to how plucking your eyebrows stops hurting after awhile). Uses an AC adapter instead of batteries, and is easy to clean. Two speed settings, with the low setting meant for bony areas like ankles and knees. This epilator can be used on the legs, bikini area and armpits, but is not to be used on the face. I personally don't recommend it to be used on the armpit or bikini area because of the risk of ingrown hairs, but give it a try and if you don't have a problem with that, or don't mind, then go ahead. The legs tend to stay ingrown hair free for most people so it's not a problem. My recommendation is to take two aspirin prior to your bath or shower,... It worked just fine until our 1 yr old Golden Retriever destroyed it! This unquestionably required a replacement and of course, I went with a Satinelle. I've owned a couple of different brands, Braun & Emjoi, and they just didn't remove unwanted hair very efficiently. It took forever to do my legs and frustratedly, I ended up waxing or shaving. (Yes, even waxing was a quicker option!) I don't remember how I ended up ordering the Satinelle, but I've never regretted it. I think I have medium hair/texture on my legs, I'm not dark and super hairy, but I do use the Satinelle for my bikini line, and again, far superior to waxing!!!Since I have been a 10+ year epilator, I have a few suggestions for pain relief.... 1. First of all, the longer you use your epilator, the less it will hurt. I think your roots just get weaker and weaker...?? 2. I've never tried the Ibuprofen/Aspirin route, but... I got this for my wife, who hates hates hates shaving, but begrudgingly does it anyway.For those not in the know, an Epilator is a small electric hair remover. It removes the hair via a bunch of wheels arranged in such a way that they grab and yank out the hair. Its kinda like tweezing, except faster, you can get more than on hair at a time, and being mechanical it lacks any and all subtlety that you tweezing with your hands might provide. Which is what the downside is... it HURTS. Its faster than tweezing, cheaper than waxing, and the results last longer than shaving... but it HURTS. My wife complained of the hurting, so I thought I'd try it on my toes to see how bad it is. I was surprised by how much it stung. So we're a few weeks in now and she's still using it.
